What did my trans rebuilder mess up?

86 700r4. Pro Built rebuild kit from Dana. Street/strip kit.

Finally got everything in the car last night. Got everything adjusted, fired it up. Got up to where the fluid level looks right (about 8-9 qts. 10" converter)

Car is still on jackstands. Started to go through the gears, First gear is all I have. Car doesnt even feel like it wants to go into reverse. Even undone the shifter and manually shifted the car from underneath into reverse. Nothing.

Put the car in drive, only has 1st gear. Nothing else.

What did my rebuilder do wrong?

Thanks guys. In hind sight I should have just bought a transmission from Dana.

Re: What did my trans rebuilder mess up?

Just spoke with Dana. He said one problem could be if my builder switched front pumps without blocking a certain passage. He seen that 11 years ago where it only gave him one gear.

Got plans for this weekend, so it looks like next weekend I'll be pulling my transmission back out.

Anybody else got any ideas? I think he just completely messed something up.

Is the TV cable adjust right? When we first put a 700R4 in my brothers truck we didnt have the cable adjust right and he only had 1st. We just made a small adjustment, and it shifted ok.

hmm. Was you too tight or too loose? And you had no reverse either? Just first.

After I had some time to think about it, I think I am too loose.

I dont remember if it was too loose or too tight. We did have reverse though.

Re: What did my trans rebuilder mess up?

Even with my tv cable completely disconnected I had all of my gears including reverse. When that little plastic peice broke that connects the cable to the hook on the TB it goes onto I had to drive it about 20 miles home, and I couldn't do anything until I got home so I would know. It just shifts really hard and really fast when theres no TV.

Re: What did my trans rebuilder mess up?

yeah Im pretty sure its something else. Not looking forward to this weekend. I reckon I will be dropping the pan friday evening and draining as much out as I can. I hate having to drain good fluid. Always going to be some that gets on the floor and is wasted. Sucks at $7.50 a quart.

Found the problem. PR valve clip wasnt seated properly and it fell out. Reinstalled it last night with a new clip and everything is right.

That happened to me, dropped the pan, and there it was..

Mine was also stuck in Drive, the shifter linkage inside the tranny came apart.. Sucked..
