Re: REAREND QUESTION
Your 7.5" 10 bolt can easily have 3.73 or 4.10 gears put in providing you have a 3 series carrier (posi). 4.56 gears are available but require a special crosspin.

Re: REAREND QUESTION
I dont have a posi track rearend 'stock' so does that mean i cant use the lower gears and buy a posi track or would it be easier to just buy a complete different rearend

Re: REAREND QUESTION
Your '89 probably has the smaller 26 spline axles. You can install a 3.73 gear in it. If you have a 2 series differential then you can get the special thick 3.73 set. If you have a 3 series differential then the standard 3.73 will work. If you want a good posi then I recommend the Eaton Posi. Use it and a set of the standard 3.73 gears. You might want to upgrade to the 28 spline Eaton and a set of 28 spline axles for a little more strength.

Yep you can get a thick ring gear for 3.73's. I dont know if they have deeper gears than that for 2 series.
You should upgrade to 28spline axles and a 28 spline diff. Abit stronger, it should last. I've had good success with 4th gen rear ends which use 28spline and zexel torsen diffs. They use worm gears instead of clutches to engage posi. I've been in the 9's with over 650whp on my 10 bolt torsen diff. The other rear i had eventually chipped a worm gear and it started to slip when going around turns. That rear survived alot of abuse from a 400whp + 150 shot nitrous car and then my 600+whp turbo car for alittle while before finally chipping
