posi rear end.

Ok, I'm looking to keep my 88 camaro street legal, but have around 400-500rwhp. I'm going to start with the rear end but I have a few questions since I'm not completely familiar with camaro's yet...

1. I really prefer a rear end that just bolts right on. Where can I find a 12 bolt posi that bolts on? If there isn't one, where can I find a direct bolt on 10 bolt?

2. What cars in the junk yard might have these 10 bolt posi's?

3. What gears are the best for it?

4. Will the gears from question 3 come with it, or will I need to put them in myself?

5. How much should I be expecting to spend on a 10 or 12 bolt posi? Reasonable price from a junkyard or online should be...

I appreciate the help, I'm looking to get a rear end sometime this weekend... Thanks again.

Re: posi rear end.

The only rear ends that fit these cars are the 3rd and 4th gen Camaro and Firebird rear ends. Nothing else will fit. Moser and a few others make bolt in 12 bolt rear ends, but they start at around $2200 plus shipping.

Re: posi rear end.

The Moser 12 bolt is a bolt in. There are several options available for this rear end. If you are interested in one let me knwo and I'll help you pick the parts that you need.

The limited slip differential (posi) was an option on all of the Camaros and Firebirds, but not standard on any of them. Check the RPO tag for the code G80. That is the code for the LSD.

Re: posi rear end.

ok, I'm interested in the moser. Although I only have about half the money for it right now. I was looking to spend about 1200 this weekend on one, but I will save for another two weeks and get the rest. Which is better between the strange and the moser or does it matter? Also, what to the different gear ratio's mean and what is the best gear ratio overall?

Re: posi rear end.

sorry for all the questions. Looking for a transmission swap after the diff. Is a T56 the optimum choice? Will this bolt to both a 350 and 383? Here is probably a dumb question... Is a 350 and a 383 a completely different motor is a 383 bored out from a 350? Sry again, I'm new to chevy

Re: posi rear end.

The best gear ratio will depend on the transmission, tire size, engine specs and what you want to do with the car.

Re: posi rear end.

Ok thanks... Do you recommend I wait on the rear end until I do the engine and trans first then?

Yes, otherwise you might end up with something that you can't use or doesn't work as well as it could.
