Does anyone have pictures or any input on how to install? The instructions I have say to grind, sand, or machine the outside edge of the bearing cap to provide a flat surface. The photos of it are black and white and can not see what was done. Contacted hawks were I purchased from and they said I should not have to machine the bearing cap. Anyone with any information or photo's would help.
Thanks

Welcome to TGO. For whatever its worth, I have the Summit version on my car. No modifying. Bolt-on.

This is for a 9 bolt, the bearing caps do not have a flat surface for the preload stud to rest against, that's where you have to grind.

This is how to do it. See the 2 raised bumps? grind those flat.

@twin_turbo thanks for the photo! From what I can see it looks like the bumps were small and did not require much grinding. Did you have to take them off to complete this? Anyone have any input on using the new stud bolts for the bearing caps? Thank you James for responding to post!

Re: Installation TA 1802 Rear Girdle
when i put mine on, i used a belt sander. I took off just enough material to start sanding in the 'non-flat' area, so that there was about 1/8" wide flat; the overall contact patch sort of looked like a sideways 'T', I didn't want to take any more material off to weaken the cap.

I don't understand your question about the studs? Just install them and torque them as necessary, use gear lube on the threads and nuts. ALSO:remember, the preload jacks are only like 15 inch-lbs or something, not FT lbs!!!

@jwscab sorry was not clear about the studs. I was just wanted to know if I should pay the extra for the upgraded stud kit and install new ones or should stock ones be ok. They make claims that they are stronger so might be a good idea to replace. Also have seen some post on here that have said they got the upgraded bolts but were not correct size.

I bought the studs. This was years ago when we first had TA makes these covers, but they were ARP studs, and much stronger than stock. Since they are undersize for the application, really (3/8-16, i think?) it was worth it to me to pick them up for the price.

your results and budget may vary, but that is what I did.
