NEED HELP WITH MY TH350 TRANS SWAP. PLEASE ASAP
I took out my 700 from my 84 camaro. Now im throwing in the th350. This trans in coming from a 78-81 camaro, not really sure, but my problem is i dont know if its a short tail or long tail? People keep telling me im going to need to buy a drive shaft and/or that im going to need a torque arm converter, which is 150. I was thinking cant i just take the driveshaft from the 2nd gen camaro and throw it in my 84, and have my mechanic drill the holes or shorten it, whichever one it needs? Please help, thanks.

for starters the 2nd gen camaro is 108 inch wheelbase and 3rd gen is 101.
next the th350 came in 3 tailshaft sizes, 4", 6", and 9".
measure the tail piece only, the 4 bolts out to the shaft seal.
the 9" tail will fit your driveshaft with no issues.
also you need to address the torque arm mount which attaches to the 700's tail.

Re: NEED HELP WITH MY TH350 TRANS SWAP. PLEASE ASAP
I just went through this. I feel for you. First, measure the tail shaft housing on you transmission. If it came from a car, its probably a 6 inch. A truck is 9 inch. The 700r4 I removed from my 86 was 9 inch. I was told the drive line from the car would fit into the 350. However I ended up with a 6 inch tranny. I had to have a driveline made. Now you will have to have a way to connect you torque arm to the cross member. Replacing the cross member may be your only option.

The 700r4 I removed from my 86 was 9 inch.
You may want to remeasure that again, I believe you will find the 700's tail to be much shorter.

Re: NEED HELP WITH MY TH350 TRANS SWAP. PLEASE ASAP
Thanks for the feed back. I never actually measured the 700r4. I got rid of it to quick. I based my conclusion on a couple points. Everything I had done like drive shaft length, and the distance I moved my cross member. is 3 inches. Also, many threads on this site such as...
Re: 700R4 vs. 350 Turbo Ok lets see if I can shed some light on this.
The 9" tail housing (long TH350) version is the same length as the 700r4. With the long version, stock driveshaft will work. Even my stock crossmember worked. I did have to buy a torque arm bracket , but thats cheap. You can get the Hurst or the B&M version.
I run 3.73 gears with a 26" tall Hoosier QTP tire. I could run 28" tires on the street and save the Hoosiers for the track. This would take some rpm out and be easier on the street. With the 26" tires, I crank about 3k at 60 mph.
The 700r4 does have a low first gear (maybe 3.06). But the gap between 1st and 2nd is wide. The TH350 1st to 2nd gap is closer together, so you dont have as much rpm drop if you drag racing.
Both trans can be built to hold quite a bit of power. The th350 will be cheaper to build comparied to the 700r4. Also the Th350 weighs less.
It all depends on how you plan on using your car. If its a DD then stay with the 700r4. If its just a hot street/strip and not worried about mpg, then the th350 is a great trans.
Oh yeah, if you do go with the th350, but a double o-ring dipstick like Lokar or a stock one with the boot type seal. Dont ask me how I know. lol
...claim that the 700r4 and 9 inch 350 is the same. Its a learning process however. We never stop.

Re: NEED HELP WITH MY TH350 TRANS SWAP. PLEASE ASAP
Measuring the tail of the 700 wont do any good. The case of the two trans are different sizes. If you have a 6" tailshaft TH350, which it sounds like you do, then yes you will need a driveshaft that is 3" longer. There are kits available that will let you attach your stock torque arm to the TH350. I think a better option though is to buy a trans crossmember that you can attach the torque arm too. You can get crossmembers that will let you use your stock arm or you can get a nice tubular arm and crossmeber package.

if you use parts from an '82 that came with a th200 or
super t-10 4 spd(driveshaft,crossmember,torque arm)
the late 2nd gen camaro th350 is a virtual bolt in job
requiring only a torque arm adaptor-swapped an'80
z28 tranny into mine years ago, then later swapped in
a 700r4 using '83 up parts.
