Auto shift **** removal

I am in the middle of an engine swap and welding the floor pans. But to fix and weld the floor pans the interior needs to come out. On another tread that i read it said that there was a c clip under the button when removed it should come out. That was for a ball style auto shifter. I have an 87 with the more square shaped ****. The button came out fine, but then their was no clip and my dad and i cant figure out what else could possibly be holding that thing on.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to remove it?

Re: Auto shift **** removal

On the front side of the **** (toward the radio), there is a clip that pulls out. It looks like a staple. After you pull that out, the **** will pull off.

Hopefully you didn't tear the shifter up getting that button out. The button stays in.
