700R4 running without ECM???

Hello, I am wrapping up the final loose ends on my BBC swap project and have a question. I am running a full carbed 454 in my 83 T/A. I pulled the ECM and rewired everything else throught the C100. I have a rebuilt (BUILT) 700R4 behind the BBC. I believe that there is a small 4prong weatherpack connector that runs to the tranny but I believe that this runs through the ECM. Not having an ECM, this presents a problem. Does that control the lockup? Can I drive the thing without this plugged in or will it hurt? I know that I can buy a lockup kit but I was just wondering if I can still drive? I was reading a post earlier where folks were running their lockup off of a toggle. If this works, How?

DO NOT - DO NOT drive without some form of lockup controll you WILL burn up your 3-4 clutchpack. There are several threads on how to wire up a system here. Contact Pro Built Automatics for a kit that will help, its cheap and it always works.

Yes all that plug controls is the lock up function on the converter. You can search the site to find a wiring diagram and make your own lock up switch with a toggle and some simple wiring or buy a kit like suggested above. Either way it is a good idea to have the proper lockup function. Not sure if driving around unlocked would do damage like duckman says. I know you don't want the trans shifting gears with the converter locked cause it will do damage to the input shaft.

You can drive without the converter locking up. Its just going to create more heat doing so.
