My tranny just took a dump on me. The reverse was working on and of for the pass 2 days. Now it just doesnt engage. 1,2,3, and 4th work just fine. Its a Rebuilt from Tranmission Trans-Plant in Pheonix. The sales rep told me that its a 700R4 from a 87 Corvette but I need some verification so that I can rebuild the tranny myself. An ideas guys? Here are the main differences that I found between my old tranny and this rebuilt which are circled with colored lines. Are there any casting numbers on the tranny? Also what could be causing the problem at hand?

 

Sometime in 1987 the 700R4's were beefed up a bit internally - that may be the difference you see.

 

Ok. Any ideas why I lost reverse?

 

Pressure Valve perhaps?
