Backing up binding noise

just got an 87 IROC. Rear disc, told it was posi (haven't had the chance to check on that).

When backing up there seems to be a noise that sounds like something is binding then releasing. Almost like a clunk noise upon rotation of the rear tires. Seems to mainly do it when turning the wheel (even slightly) and appears to go away if backing up straight.

is this normal (if it is a posi) or any idea what could be wrong

thanks

Re: Backing up binding noise

probably a good idea to pop off the diff cover and see what laying in it. sounds like something is broken in there.
