Another tranny leak thread
First off, new to the site and new to the camaro but not new to cars. I just bought the car yesterday (87 Iroc-z) and got it home only to notice two spots of tanny fluid on the ground passenger side. My driveway is a hill so I thought maybe these trannys have overfill holes. Pulled it into my garage which is level and checked again with the car off. I noticed a few drips starting and the bolts around the pan were wet.
This morning I jacked it up and tighted the pan bolts since they seemed to be abnormally loose. The gasket is cork so I didnt over tighten them just snugged up. As I was under there I noticed the tranny lines were wet and I could see drops forming by the threads. Now my question is, whats the easiest way to snug up on those flare nuts because there is no room to work with at all. Tried getting a wrench in there with no success.
Another thing I'm going to look at is the dipstick gromet because I've been reading fluid can leak out of there as well. Any other suggestions? This only happens once the car is shut off and sitting. While its running I have put it in park and checked but it doesnt leak.

This morning I jacked it up and tighted the pan bolts since they seemed to be abnormally loose. The gasket is cork so I didnt over tighten them just snugged up. I used pipe thread tape on the compression fittings, stopped the leak from the cooler lines. Give it a try

Lower the tail on the transmission a little and you'll have some more room to get a wrench in.

Thanks for the late advice. I did exactly that, lowered the trannny and was able to get enough room to work. Ended up replacing the lines with hose and all new fittings. No leaks now! New pan gasket and output shaft seal as well. Good as new!

where was it dripping from? i think i have the same problem on my 86 iroc. i replaced the tranny filter and gasket thinking it was the cork gasket that cracked or just died it was goof over night but in the a.m there was a spot the size of a softball under the pan close to the passenger side any suggestions?

One of the lines was leaking where it threads into the tranny. Crawl under and look around the lines. As my dad says, think like a rain drop. Start as high as you can and work your way down. You can also check the dipstick grommet. From what I've read it can also leak where the TV cable and speedo cable go into the tranny. Lowering the whole thing wasnt a huge deal either if you go that route.

I always replace the tophat seal whenever I have to mess with the dipstick tube, or else it seems they love to leak.
