Re: ????

There was no 200-4R installed in a Camaro.

"????" doesn't help you to get answers.

Re: ????

I'm pretty sure there was a "200" auto trans, there's a ton of threads on them - just don't remember the exact name of it (whether it as a 200R4 or just a TH200 or what).

But the question has me confused - you mention 3 transmissions - What transmission do you ultimately want to put in, the 700R4 or the TH400? Do you want this "200" crossmember to bolt to the 700R4 or the TH400 or what?

There was a 200-4R in the turbo transams though, and the external dimentions are the same between the 200 and 200-4R.

Between a 200R4, 700R4, and TH400 - I'd say go with the trans that best suits your needs. I don't think a 200 can be made to handle the power that a 700R4 can handle. And I know a TH400 can be built to handle well more than the 200 or 700. As I have read/seen, the TH350's are the more common, able to be "built" tranny for the small blocks, and the TH400 was usually the choice of "built" for the BBC's. I'd pick the one that's going to long-term handle my plans, and make it work. What mounts work with what I don't know - but aftermarket has almost everything for anything these days.

Actualy the 2004R is a much stronger trans than the 700. They easily are built to handle 1000 HP big blocks and have superior ratio spread compared to the 700.

The 700/60 has a very low 1st gear and that was nice in 82 when it was introduced but by the late 80's when power actualy made a come back it was already problematic. The issue is when you gear the car for a good launch in 1st the drop during the 1-2 shift is so great you fall out of your ideal rpm range.

The car has to strugle to regain revs til it reaches it's power band again and that causes less than ideal performance.

An aftermarket company has finaly introduced a revised gear set for the 700/60 but for the money they want for just that set you could build a brute of a 2004r if you can find an OE H.O. version. Starting with a basic caddy or monte piece is significantly more expensive.

The 700 is a fine trans though and has an aftermarket that no other OD 4 speed can match, if you dont NEED every tenth and good MPG and wont be making a lot over 500HP it'll work just fine and can be built cheap.

But th 200 in place of a 700 can be worth a few tenths or upto a second by its self in a high power car.
