i swapped out my 305 carb. 700r4 auto for a stroked 305 carb. saginaw 4speed. engine and trans came out of an 82 camaro [factory] I put them in my 86 iroc. now i want to switch the 4 speed for the auto. took trans out of car and noticed differance between flywheel and flexplate. flywheel is 168 tooth and flexplate is 153 tooth. can i just buy a 168 tooth flexplate and bolt it up? or is there more involved.

 

Either should work in the 700R4, I think only the 153 will work in the manual. You also have to match starters.

I swapped in a 1970's 350 with a 168 and my 700R4, just had to get the right starter (since stock I had a 153 starter on my old 305 TBI).
