t5 bellhousing

I have an 83 trans am with a 5speed t5 and i was wondering how I check the start gear to flywheel clearance. I just put a new starter on the car and wanted to make sure that the clearance is right so it doesnt chew up any teeth?

Re: t5 bellhousing

If it makes peculiar noise when starting, try shimming it.

I have never had to shim a Chevy starter.
