Anyone ever used a bronze shifter bushing?

This:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bronz...Q5fAccessories

I've never heard about anyone actually using one of these, so I'm skeptical about buying one, because, including shipping, it's over $35.
I can get a stock replacement one for less than half of that, but I've broken two of those now.
I don't have a T5 in my car, it's in my truck, so I have a longer shifter than a third gen would have = more force on this bushing.
I'd just like to hear from someone who has used one of these, or your opinion of it, even if you haven't used one, before I spend $35 on it.

Re: Anyone ever used a bronze shifter bushing?

It's been a while since I had a stock T5 shifter to look at, but this is supposed to replace the plastic-ish/nylon "isolator", that goes between the mounting plate for the shifter and the actual stick?

That looks different than I remember, but maybe I'm remembering wrong, thinking of the wrong thing, or your truck shifter is constructed differently.

That said, seems like it would have the shifter feel more "solid", and probably be noisier as well. If you're breaking these often, seems like it might be worthwhile? But that said, I'd never heard of these breaking before. Didn't even know they made these

No, I think you're thinking of the wrong part. I'm talking about part #21 in the picture in this thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...r-bushing.html

Camaro's, mustang's, S-series truck, and most vehicles with T5's use this same part.

I think it should make the shifter feel more solid, and be stronger so it might be worthwhile. But, my main concern, if I replace this bushing with a bronze one, will I potentially cause damage to the transmission instead of the bushing in the future?

I doubt they fail commonly, since most vehicles with T5's have a much shorter shifter then I do.

It's pretty obvious when I damage one of these bushings, the shifter just about hits the seat when I put it in second gear. I might still have a damaged one around that I can take a picture of tomorrow.

Ohhh, okay. Now I understand what you're talking about.

I don't see how a bronze bushing could damage the transmission. You can damage the shift forks by "over shifting", but that danger is there regardless of what material the bushing is made of

That's what I was worried about, but I didn't think that was likely to happen with the stock bushing installed, since it fails so easily.

Re: Anyone ever used a bronze shifter bushing?

I have one, and recommend them for any rebuilds if there's any $$ left in the project...

While the factory shifter bushing failure rate is low, I have seen them crack or distort causing gear engagement issues..

I wouldn't take off the shifter just to replace one, but if you're having engagement issues or having the trans rebuilt, it's a relatively inexpensive upgrade.

The shifter is probably the problem. The bushing that it pivots on (not the one this thread is about, but above that) wears out pretty quick.
Get an aftermarket shifter if you don't like the stock one, you won't notice a dramatic difference just replacing the lower bushing.

Re: Anyone ever used a bronze shifter bushing?

those bronze shifter bushings are pretty popular over on tech.

A factory hurst shifter and a bronze shifter bushing would be a great budget upgrade over my base t56 shifter.

...i can't imagine my shifter being much better, if any, than yours.

...buy one and let us know!
