700r casting numbers
I'm trying to figure out if I want to rebuild my 86's old trans or scrap it and get a new core.
It's not in the car, it lost 3rd gear, made it home and wouldn't go back into drive. The transmisson in there now is starting to slip 3rd and on top of that is a TH200c.
There's a tag that says "Service Replacement Transmission Assembly" and stamped with GM.
The output shaft has 30 splines
The numbers I found on the trans are;
pump: 8642380
tag: 6YPM4
and there's also a serial number.
I'm hoping it has the auxiliary valve body but my lucks not so good.

Re: 700r casting numbers
Anyone gotta clue?
If what I'm finding is true its a 86 transmission. It's not the original one for the car though the serial doesn't match. Is the only way to check for the auxiliary valve body to drop the oil pan?

Re: 700r casting numbers
This is a 1986 unit from the code you have, not an auxillary valve body type. The 1988 and up are the best to start with, but do not throw this one away, as it can be good for spare parts.

Thanks for the information
Time to wrap it back up in plastic and store it again. Cores are easy enough to find anyway.

This may help as well.

Also, behind the torque converter, look for a casting number on the front pump. If the last three digits are "732", then you have the new, improved version of the 700-R4.
