Car: 1989 formula ws6
Engine: 350 tpi
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 1993 posi 10 bolt with 3:42
4 gen. rear end

i just bought a 10 bolt rear end rebuilt for 150 to replace my broken 9 bolt is the fourth gen posi this year really an improvement i tried to find some info off this part number but could not find anything useful the year and code is 1993 GM n #26029188

Try punctuation....that would be an improvement.

/smart *** mode...

10 bolt will be easier to find parts for and have cheaper parts. Improvement? Probably not...much worse...probably not.

The only way to know for sure is to take the cover off and look. Then you can verify gear ratio as well. It surely won't hurt anything to get new fluid in it since it's 17 years old.

You can also just spin the pinion yoke and count the revolutions of the axle. It will get you a rough idea. You'll be able to tell between 3.42 and 2.73 which tells you which carrier size you have. Also, you can tell between 3.42 and 3.73s. 3.23s and 3.42s was the other standard option...not sure you'll be able to tell the difference.
