My transmission is coming up out of the floor when I press the gas?!?!?!
SubscribeOk guys,
Id call myself mechanically inclined, but by no means a mechanic..
I recently took my 1986 Z28 (305, 5spd, Carb) for a test drive.
I was making a turn, and burned a bit of rubber to make the turn...and the transmission started to fold forward up out of the floor!!!!
Luckily I had my center console all unbolted, so the whole center console raised with it (Id say about 6 inches), otherwise im quite sure it would have broken through the plastic.
I pulled over and checked under the car...didn't see anything...But when I engage the clutch or press on the gas, the transmission raises out of the floor....if I go slowly it doesn't raise as much, but if i step on it it goes pretty high!!!
This scared the hell out of me...does anyone know what this problem is? a transmission mount of some kind? what do I need to have replaced on the car?
Thank you all!

Get an energy Suspension Polymount (AutoZone, Jegs, O'Riellys, Summit) about 15-20 bucks, and won't break like the rubber one. 3-4 bolts to replace it easy job. Loosen the old one, jack up trans. pull the old one out, and install the new one.....

Agreed - If you can jack up the car, support it on jackstands and have access to a 15mm socket/ratchet, you can do the repair yourself and save a lot of money.

Based on the following, I'd suggest the Prothane mount or OE rubber mount:
