Tips for removing Torque arm? T-5
Anybody have any tips on removing the torque arm? How did you hold the top of the bolt while you cracked loose the bottom nut?
Is there enough clearance with the rear suspension loaded or would I have to lift to body and let the rear end hang?
Does anybody know the size I would need? I have to buy it so it would be cool to know,or at least SAE or metric?

Re: Tips for removing Torque arm? T-5
...to elaborate on the response I posted in my other thread...
I'm assuming you're talking about the uppermost bolt (to hold the clamshell together) on a T5 torque arm mount... correct?
My bolt hole was stripped when I got my T5 so I had to drill and tap a 7/16-14 hole.
I went about my T/A removal/reinstallation a bit unorthodox. I removed the old mount off the 700R4 after I had dropped the crossmember so that the mount would clear the trans tunnel. I assume the process to remove it from the T5 is similar.
Because my T5 torque arm was a B!TCH to bolt shut, I actually unbolted my torque arm completely at the rear end and dropped it out. Then I started all 3 bolts on the torque arm with the new bushing in. It was snug, but still a little loose so I could get the arm back in.
I then put the front end of the T/A INTO the bushing first (greased the bushing of course) and then proceeded to put the torque arm back on the differential. Once it was all back together, I just tightened everything back up.
The biggest problem doing it this way is that if you remove the T/A from the rear, the rear will pivot upward towards the body. Its not very much, but with the front of the T/A already in the mount/bushing, you have to get the rear end to pivot back down far enough to line up with the 2 bolt holes on the T/A itself. Its a pain, but can be done with another pair of hands.
Again, there are easier ways, but since my T/A mount on the T5 was a pain to get the clamshell to close, this was my only option.
Hope that helps.
