what gear ratio to run
I built a motor for a guy sometime back in 86 z-28, built the original 305 (his choice not to change to a 350)lol. has 700 r4 trans. what gear ratio would you put in car, he wants to light em up stop light to stop light. and save some freeway cruising. so wohat would you do as far as grear ratio.. thanks

I have 4.10's, with a tpi 350/t-5 and it doesnt seem as easy to burn them as 3.42. I would say something like a 3.42 or maybe even a 3.73 would be good, 4.10 may be too much gearing for that. Of course, Id rather hook and move than burn and stand.

I've done a similar build. '85 Camaro, built 305, 700R-4, initially 3.42:1 then 3.73:1 rear gears. For what he's wanting, 3.73:1 is the right choice.

Question, I have a T-56 with a Ford 9" thats got 3.25 gears, withi the T-56 having like a 2.97 (?) first gear ratio, that'd give me speed off the line but low highway rpms, right?
