Dana 44 posi identification
Does anyone recognize the type of posi unit this is?
I purchased it with the option of either Trac Loc or Power Loc cases (as described by the seller) however it doesn't resemble either one of them.

Re: Dana 44 posi identification
I thought some one might suggest that.
Pretty sure it's a posi though.
Although not definitive, both wheels rotate in the same direction when the axle is in the air. Further to that, with one wheel up, the other on the ground (and no driveshaft) it's impossible for me to rotate the one free standing wheel.
I'm not entirely certain, which is why I'm asking, but I believe the springs are part of the pinion assembly similar to the Borg Warner 9 bolt arrangement.
Here are a couple more images of the Dana.

Re: Dana 44 posi identification
Definitely not a Power Lock so it must be a Trac Lock
Re: Dana 44 posi identification
"Traction-Lok" is the term Ford uses for their limited slip... In the Mustang the clutches are between the side gears and the housing, which looks quite a bit like your pics.

Those pics posted of the Trac-Loc are from a Mustang forum.
Interesting.
This Dana was new to the previous owner right out of the Dana plant somewhere in Indiana. He's a machinist there and used it in his SCCA racer. I bought it a couple of years ago.
What LSD's they came with equipped as over the counter 3rd gen parts is beyond me. I just know they were issued as replacement service parts and sold through GMPP.
I can't recall how the clutch assembly looked when I replaced the gear set.
I guess I'll just assume it's a Trac-Loc and have a better look at it if it blows up.
From what I've read it's a pretty good all around posi system.
