Front Right axle noise when turning?
My right front axle is making a ratchety clicking noise mostly in parking lots and driveways when I turn the wheels sharply.
I am new to firebirds but if it was a Honda I would say it sounded like a CV joint problem.
Are there some common problems that sound like this?
Thanks!
Charles

Re: Front Right axle noise when turning?
There's no "axle" up there in one of these cars, so it's not that.
There's just some bearings inside the hub which is part of the brake rotor. Sounds like it's time for some new ones of those.

Thanks is this something I could do? I am a noob but changed the heater core successfully. Is there an online resource or diagram?
Thanks!

Re: Front Right axle noise when turning?
Yes, FWbearings are easy.
I searched the thirdgen forums w/ "change wheel bearings"
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brak...r-install.html
should walk you through it.
The outer bearing race in the rotor takes effort to replace. I've never replaced it (except when replacing a rotor) and never had a problem.
To pop the inner seal, remove the dust cap, cotter key, nut, outer wheel bearing & retainer plate.
Reinstall the nut so it is even with the end of the spindle end. Holding the rotor w/ both hands, pull it downwards toward the ground and yank the rotor towards you. The inner bearing and seal will catch on the nut and come out with ease.
Have fun.
