I have a 1992 firebird with a 79 350 and a th350 when i first got the motor in i backed it out of the garage then pulled it back in well today i got mostly everything buttoned up but now it wont shift at all i put it in all gearsand it doesnt move at all. What could be wrong?

 

it has park and nuetral but i too the cooler lines off and its not pumping oil. does the pump just go out like that or wat?

 

It has fluid?

 

yup it looks clean and i checked it in neutral and its full on the stick but its not pumping so i dont understand

 

If the pump isn't pumping, chances are the torque converter isn't installed properly to turn the pump.

I can't see you using a wrong converter. Turbo spline input shafts are 30 spline. 700R4 converters have 27 or 30 spline input shafts (depends on the year). There's no way to install a 27 spline converter on a 30 spline input shaft but if you went the other way, the splines wouldn't engage.

 

i bought the car with the trans and converter already with it and he said everything worked fine so im pre sure its right converter but idk if the trans is what he says

 

How many ft-lbs did you torque the converter-to-flexplate bolts to?

 

i dont even remeber but they arent completly torqued now cuz i took them out to check the converter

 

With the bolts out of the converter can you freely spin the converter? Can you slide the converter back into the tranny about 1/8"?

 

yes and im not sure i think it might be a little more than a 1/8th but before when i bolted together i dont think u could turn it freely when it was bolted up

 

Flexplate on the right way? The tabs that the converter bolts onto should be raised towards the converter. Pulling the converter out too much may disengage the pump.

 

yup raised tabs towards converter. Could something in the converter be stuck from setting? because idk how long it was setting and it was supposedly rebuilt a couple years ago. and has around a 2400 stall converter. Do you think and filter change with some addative would help?

 

You could at least pull the pan off and have a look inside. See if any hard parts are in the pan. See if the filter fell off. See if linkage fell off.

 

i didnt realize how much crankwalk i have which is very bad with the crank all the way forward and converter all the way back theres 3/8 to 1/2inch gap

 

put spacers in just so i could see if the trans was working and now it freewheels but still not pumping fluid. I drained a bit over a gallon of fluid out of it and it all looks clean and the pan have some dirt in it not a whole lot. So should i change the filter? or is it pretty much junk?

 

waz there ever a solution to this?
