Got a 90 RS 5 speed. Bought it a week or two ago. Noticed a small trans leak (like real small). The guy I bought it from said trans was just rebuilt with new clutch. When trans was hot, would shift extremelly hard, so I figured maybe low on fluid?
Heres what I did,

Put car on ramps (driveway leans, this makes car flat)
Passenger side, found the 2 bolts, bottom one then one about 3 inches higher.
Undid the top one, and fluid came POURING out all over.

I did not drive the car prior, just to put it on the ramps, was this thing overloaded? Would kind of symptoms would that cause?

Trans had too much fluid. Probably why the leaking, but I don't think that would cause hard shifting. Not sure though.

 

Since the car is new to you and you're unfamiliar with how it's been serviced, I'd drain the trans and refill it (until fluid is just weeping from the top hole) with ATF.
