87 700r4 spydometer cable mec or electric?

Engine: Mild 350 / Vortec L31
Transmission: TH700R4 / TH700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.42 / 2.73
87 700r4 spydometer cable mec or electric?

Tranny from a 87 gta could it be mecanical? or there all electric in 87? thanks

I'd guess electric. If you wish to swap the 87 into your IROC, which is mechanical, simply remove the VSS from the electric trans and swap in the mechanical housing (along with the proper drive and/or driven gears) from your IROC.

Yep, I think in 87 the Pontiacs received the electronic and the Chevs mechanical.

Thanks thats a good idea, but i have a 89 tranny in it as we speak

As an example: 90-92 Camaros are electric (T5/700R4) and as a consequence have the VSS on the tail shaft of the trans. If you wish to swap one of these trans into an earlier car which is equipped with a mechanical speedo, you'd simply remove the VSS from the tail shaft and install the speedo gear/housing from the earlier car. The T-5 and 700R4 aren't interchangeable.
