Re: differintial oil?

With the stock cover, it takes about 2 quarts. Exact amount depends on what gears and carrier you have. Buy 3 and take one back if you don't use it. I'd suggest Mobil1 since it's easy to find just about anywhere (Meijer, Wal-Mart, AutoZone, real parts stores, you name it)

Re: differintial oil?

I wouldn't bother with a gasket. Run a bead of silicone all the way around the cover and bolt holes and bolt it on. I normally use Permatex red RTV. I don't think I've used a diff cover gasket since the early 1980's.

Re: differintial oil?

i'd go with alky's recommendation - use RTV instead of the gasket. the cover's just stamped metal and not always flat enough to seal well the stock paper type gasket. rtv will do a much better job sealing the setup and last longer

Re: differintial oil?

well i got the gasket and everyhting changed today, putting the oil in is being a PITA, its 30 degrees here so the oil is so thick its just taking a slow time coming out.

Next time your at walmart they have a pump with a hose that will screw right onto gear oil bottle. It works real good for about $3.00
