700R4 Lockup

I have a TCI 700R4 tansmission and works good and low gear 1st,2nd, and third. When I get up to about 50mph it seems to stumble and have a drop in power when I floor the gas pedal it takes awhile to kick in. Does this sound like the vaccum solenoid on the transmission? Not sure what to look for shift cable seems to be in correct as all gears shift when then need to. Any suggestions on were to start?

sounds like an ignition miss to me. If it shifts normally, the TV cable is adjusted correctly. There is no vacuum solenoid in the trans, there should be a vacuum switch to drop the TCC out when more than half throttle is applied(I think it's under the dash, but I'm not sure on the third Gen). It should make the 4-3 downshift and come out of lock-up if you floor it. The stumble sounds like a bad plug or plug wire. Hope that helps....

Re: 700R4 Lockup

Replaced everything as far as the ignition parts go new spark plugs, wires, disributer and almost every sensor on car. Does seem to have a small missfire once in awhile at idle. I have tried to adjust this and know I could be off one gear maybe. Would this cause it to run like that and no probs on other gears?

try it with then trans in 3rd and see what happens. If the stumble/miss is still there, something is still off. What year is the car? TPI/TBI/Carb? 45-50 MPH?

Nope I can shift down to 3rd and its ok...It is an 87 with TPI...runs really good in lower gears and has lots of power. Just problems after transmission goes into 4th. Seems to be right at 50mph

Re: 700R4 Lockup

hang a fuel gauge on it and watch how it reads as you approach and exceed 50mph.

Here is the vaccum solenoid that is on my transmission traced the hard line up to plenum. A pain to get to but going to try and remove and apply vaccum to it as a test like instructions say here. Anyone have this set up and any problems? Will let you know what I come up with. Just thinking maybe I don't have to take off can apply the vaccum to the hard line on top....just thinking out loud here...
@JMD no drop in fuel pressure!
Thanks for all that have replied!
