82-89 and 90 - 92 housing difference?

Ok, I bought a 91 transam rear and I intended to build it with posi, gears, and convert to disks then swap out the one currently in the car. While I was taking the backing plates off I broke all four small bolts off in the housing and I need them out to drill the holes for my disk backing plates. The housing is really rusty and pitted so I was wondering if it would be ok to toss the 28 spline axles and posi into the 83 housing. I know they have visually different center housings, is there a difference in strength?

There were many changes to the housing from 82-92 but nothing that prevents you from swapping parts around in them. You just need to swap the 28 spline axles and carrier (posi) into the older diff.

The brake flange is different on the older housings. They only have 3 bolts in the backing plates.
