Premium Type F auto tranny fluid

Hi guys,

A buddy of mine suggested using some Type F (Ford uses it I think in some of their trucks/cars) for better shifting/launching abilities because of how the fluid mixes with the clutches. I'm not too sure on it but I want to know more about so I figured to ask you guys.

I just need a real clear good answer, if possible. I have the 700r4 tranny & it shifts and works good. The fluid I bought is from O'Reilly's. It's their Premium Type F stuff.

Thanks!

Re: Premium Type F auto tranny fluid

Type F has different friction modifiers for old Ford transmissions with asbestos clutches. It has less clutch holding power when fully applied, doesn't lubricate the gears as well, and isn't as heat-tolerant.

If you want to use it, strip down your transmission and rebuild it with new unsaturated clutches. Then put in Type-F fluid.

A good synthetic ATF fluid is far better than using Type-F. Modern clutch material doesn't need Type-F.
