T56 application numbers???? HELP!!
T56 application numbers???? HELP!!
I did several searches on the web and in the forum and have not found what I am looking for.
*How can I tell what a T56 came out of and what ratios it has in it? I understand that Chrysler used it in the Viper, Ford has used it in the Mustang and that GM used it in both "F" bodies. Is there a difference in the trans itself or is the only difference in the bellhousing that is hung on the front?
I found an application code sheet for a T5 but not for a T56.
Is there a difference in the T56 like the T5 in that some years are stronger than others? Thanks for any help you can render. I am looking at one tomorrow and will have the codes I can find on it to post later but I'd like to know what I'm looking at while I'm there.

Transmission Dimensions BW T56 (F-body)
32 1/2" long 25 1/2" Bellhousing flange to Trans mount
Wiring hookups include backup lights, VSS, CAGS, and
Reverse Lockout (none of the wiring hookups are necessary for proper transmission operation)
Shifter is located on the Tailshaft 29" back from front of
bellhousing flange
Transmission Gear Ratios
1 2 3 4 5 6
T56 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62 93 Only
T56 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50 94 and later
T5 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.00 0.74
4L60E 3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70
The Y-body (Corvette) cannot be confused since it will not have a trans mount.
The GTO will look exactly like the F-body but will have the a plastic "adapter" where the shifter is to move the shifter assembly further back to fit the GTO body. I don't think the GTO has a torque arm mount on it.
