my 4th gen rearend swap makes noise
Need some help here. I just completed my swap of a 3.42 rear end with disc brakes into my '92 and it runs and drives great but there is a noise coming from the rear of the car. Not really a grinding noise but more like a dragging type noise, metal rubbing on metal like not deafening but very noticable. I have new rotors, calipers and break pads ect. only thing I havent done is change the proportional valve. Any ideas?

You sure the rear axle was in good shape to begin with? Like...If it came out of a wrecked car, how was the car wrecked? Slid sideways into a curb, which pushed an axle in hard & damaged a bearing? Brakes dragging? Dry pumpkin so no oil inside to lube the bearings?

That is the only ting I can figure, when I bought it it was out of the car and I don't know how it was wrecked. It has new gear oil and posi additive so I don't think thats it. Can the axle be bent?

Entirely possible to bend an axle, but the force required to bend one would most likely hurt bearings first.
You could set the rear up on jack stands, tires off the ground, front tires blocked....Start the car, let it run at idle & go look at the rear tires spinning for any signs of wobble. Might work best with the tires off, to eliminate any wheel/tire wobble. Check with & without them to see.
But I wouldn't try the above method unless you are 110% certain about your ability to do that & not have the car fall & drive off down the road without a driver. With a 2nd person it wouldn't be so bad, since one could stay in the car & be there to hit the brakes IF it were to fall.
Just don't get under the car to listen for noise if you are not 110% certain that is CAN NOT FALL.
