Best Transmission To Run For Auto-x/Drifting?

Hey guys in the spring I am going to pick up a 350TPI Camaro or firebird/ta for an auto-x/drift car build(pretty mild not going crazy just weekend fun and a car I can daily drive) here is the link to my build thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/orga...ml#post4751920

Here is my question. Whatever car I buy will be coming with a 700R4 because thats all they put behind the the 350TPI(brilliant GM) so I really dont think I have an option other than to build that one or swap it

Here are the options I can think of off the top of my head
All manual transmission swaps make me cringe cause that involves a lot of work including putting in clutch petal but I dont know how I feel about auto tranny drifting
T5 swap(but it will break)
Built T5 swap(might be ok since I am not going to throw a lot of mods at the motor. mostly just suspension, and maybe intake/exhaust/tune)
T56 Swap(real PITA)
Build the 700R4(I need more info on this. Would it be a good idea for this purpose?)

Thanks fellas

they make a bolt in, t5 replacement, t56 trans you know, another alternative, but more expensive than a used lt1 t56 and conversion parts.

manual swaps are really not that hard.

you could always buy a 305 tpi car with a 5 speed, and put a supercharger on it. then upgrade the trans and rear

yeah idk man I am very undecided. i may just get a 350TPI with auto and run it till it dies then pull it out have it rebuilt with race internals and shove it back in and just be an auto drifter

Re: Best Transmission To Run For Auto-x/Drifting?

Theres 2 new companies that take a T-5 and basically make it bullet proof. This is the route i will be taking since autoX and drifting is what i am aiming for. Heres the links. http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec..............and http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...tml......seems like a good way to save money since i have a T-5 already and this car wont be seeing any daily driving duties.
