I'm trying to build a shorty th350 from a 4x4 trans like the one pictured below with the ultra short tailshaft, does anyone know where I can get a tailshaft cover?

The cover that has a bearing and a yoke seal, but just to be clear this is different than a housing/extension. They are very common for Powerglides but can't find one for the th350 for the life of me.
The Ron Sessions book notes that a company called A-1 made them but A-1 no longer exists as best I can tell. I've tried TCI and Hughes with no luck.
I can post a photo of the similar cover for the Powerglide, or you can look at summit pn CLR-25031
thx

What good would having a 2WD extension housing do? The output shaft is still too short.
IOW, what are you REALLY trying to do?

You don't need speedometer gear provisions, nor overdrive?
You could take a regular extension to a TIG welding shoppe and have it made
and then pay more for a custom length driveshaft and spend more time adding a reluctor setup for speedometer.
Or just have the output swapped... Just saying.

as noted before I'm not looking for an extension housing, want to attach the yoke right to the existing shaft but I need a cover.but just to be clear this is different than a housing/extension
trying to make a shorty transmission, can't be much clearer than that.

not sure ya'all are clear on what a shorty trans is? don't want to swap the output, then it wouldn't be a shorty.Or just have the output swapped... Just saying.
just looking for a source for a cover
maybe this will help - this is a photo of the cover for the powerglide, I'm looking for a source for the same thing for the th350:

Is this going into an 82-up F-body?
Or, what is it going into? What is the rear axle?

custom install in an old hotrod flatbottom boat, not a third-gen car chassis. driveshaft and rearend choices don't really apply, it's hooked up to a vdrive via a custom driveshaft.Originally Posted by jmd

That makes more sense.
To get one that short...
If you can't find an old A-1 piece, your best bet might be to get a transfer case adapter (advance adapters has a ton; I'd dig around for used on eBay) and if your yoke is too small to match the seal / bushing dia. the adapter uses, sleeve it.

the A-1 piece was really what I was after but I ran into a total dead end on finding them, any idea if they have a web presence, or do you/anybody know of a phone number for them?
does the regular tailshaft extension housing have a bearing in it, or is it just a seal? any reason why I'd need a bearing for support with the short output shaft?
thanks for the info

In a car or truck with a slip or bolt-in yoke, the output is supported by the yoke being in a bushing. (Google a TH350 or 700-R4 tailhousing, it's obvious.) Without that bushing / yoke, the output has too much play. Then of course there is a seal to retain ATF from exiting (or reaching a transfer case.)
