92z28 spline count
What is the spline count on a factory 1992 z28 305 TPI w/ 700R4 tranny driveshaft?
I thought this factory driveshaft should slide right onto the tail of a T-56 (from 1997 trans am). but i cannot get this to work at all and the shop working on my car also tried and they said the spline count is not the same. what is the spline count on a 97 trans am t-56?
I had the tranny rebuilt over a yr ago and cant remember if the tailshaft would have changed. i am getting this info from the rebuild company later but want to make sure.
thanks

Every F-body slip yoke 83-02 is 27 spline.
If your yoke goes into the 700-R4 without issue, the problem may be with the tailhousing bushing in the T56. Some are real monsters to get in there without deforming due to the fluid drain grooves cut into the tailhousing. The right tool makes this a non-issue. Your shop should have this figured out in short order, though they might not have the right tool in-hand.

Re: 92z28 spline count
could it be possible that the T-56 has an upgraded tailshaft - 30 spline or something? i dont think so just because i feel like we can get the yolk right onto the tailshaft but cant push it in - seems like the splines line up but something is just a hair off like you mention.

Re: 92z28 spline count
Not to be obnoxious but your shop should be able to figure out whether it's a standard GM 27 spline output in 2 minutes by counting and measuring.
If it is, the tailhousing should be removed, at which point the yoke will match either the output but not the bushing (likely) which means the bushing needs changed out.
You would have paid at least a few hundred extra to have upgraded the output to 30 or 31 spline on top of normal rebuild cost.

yea i think the shop is just being lazy... i am going to check it out soon. i checked and didnt upgrade the output shaft so that should still be 27 spline.
