TCC Trouble

I got a problem with my TCC, it always lock up except in first gear, that's kind of annoying when driving around town. A local transmission guys told me that I had a broken spring in my valve body but I don't really trust him! In order to do my 355 swap I remove the transmission with the engine so I could work on it. What am I looking for?
Thank you guys

Re: TCC Trouble

It Always Locks Up? No Matter What? I Had The Opposite Issue Just Recently, I Dumped The Quadrajet I Had For A Holley And Soon The Old Electronic Distributor For A Vac Advance, And That Made It To Where My ECM Couldnt Control My TCC. So I Went Under The Car And Cut The Three Wires That Attach Next To The Shifter Linkage, And Routed Them Into The Center Console. I Grounded The Brown Wire, Taped Up The Blue And Put A Switch And A Light On The Red Wire Connected To A 12V Source. I Can Lock And Unlock My TCC With A Flip Of My Switch. Not Having My Converter Locked Was Killing Me On The Highway So I Had To Fix That. My Way Is Just A Rigged Up Version I Have To Unlock It Everytime I Slow Down Or Try To Pass On The Highway, But Oh Well I Can Live With It For Now. You Could Just Put In A Switch On Your Red Wire, The Port 420 And That Will Engage Or Kill Your TCC Solenoid.

Re: TCC Trouble

It's normal for it to lock in 3rd and 4th, are you sure it's locking in 2nd?

Mine Will Lock In Second If I Hold It In Second And Hit My TCC Switch, It Will Never Lock In First. I Think Its Ideal Only For 4th To Lock But Thats Just Me.

Re: TCC Trouble

I didn't installed any switch.... It lock in second when I give no gas and this cause me a lot of trouble cause the cars reving around 1000 RPM when driving 30 MPH. Thw whole car shake when I give gas cause the converter is lock and the engine is almost at idle

Re: TCC Trouble

Before I Took Out Alot Of My Computer Controlled Parts Mine Would Lock Up Too Early And I Had The Same Problem. If You Plan On Doing Your Swap And Keeping Things Computer Controlled, I Know The TPS, The Coolant Sensor And There Is One More Sensor I Think That Affects When Your TCC Locks And Unlocks. They Also Sell Kits For Non Computer Control Lockup And The One I Would Like To Try Is The One That Senses Fluid Pressure When You Are In 4th And Locks Depending On The Pressure Level. There Is No Broken Spring. When You Drop Your Pan, You Will See Three Wires Going In, One Wire Will Be The +12V And That Goes Straight To Your TCC Solonoid. And 2 Pressure Switches. All Controlled Electronicly, No Springs.

Re: TCC Trouble

Thank you! Maybe the previous owner added a switch or maybe he ground a wire in terminal so the computer always looks the converter. I'll check the sensor too

Re: TCC Trouble

I read a lot about the torque converter lock-up( Haynes Techbook on the TH700R4 and on internet), the ECM is locking the converter when the vehicle's warm and is in high gear at constant speed and over 35 mile per hour. I jump in my car and tested it, the converter lock-up right when the transmission shift in second gear at NORMAL cruzing speed(somewhere around 15 mph). If I give more gas the converter doesn't lock. Warm or cold it doesn't make any difference and when I hit the brakes it doesn't disengage. I check and there's four sensor sending information too the ECM for the lock-up: Coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor, throttle position sensor and the brake-off switch. I'll not lose time too check all these sensor cause the problem doesn't occur at one situation, it occur at all! So now I'm looking at the ECM or at the electric solenoid and or the converter clutch valve in the throttle body. That was my troubleshooting, I hope I'm heading the right way!

Thats The One, The Speed Sensor, I Knew About The TPS And The Coolant Sensors, The Speed Sensor In My Car Never Worked Cus My Cable Is Shot Or Something I Go Off My RPMs To Tell My Speed In 4th. The Brake Switch Is Supposed To Kill The +12V Source To Your TCC Lockup So It Unlocks When You Tap The Brakes. I Hope You Find Some Good Deals, ECMs Are Pricey When New Or Rebuilt. If It Were Me Id Look At The Pressure Controlled TCC Lockup:

Or Google 700R4 Hydraulic Lockup Kit, Pretty Pricey For A Few Springs And I Bit Of Brass But I Imagine It Working Better Than Switches.
