Sorry but i need some urgent help.

My Trans Am V8 don't change from first gear. Only works its. If put 2nd ord D, or OD, only works the first gear.

I was looking for leves and found the power steering pump with minimum level but now don't have atf fluid to put. Can be this the problem or don't?

Last summer was changed into garage the transmission fluid and rear axle fluid.

Check for a broken governor gear in the transmission.

 

Check the throttle kickdown cable, it might be pulled taught.

 

I can't really gleen what you are trying to say with the above post; sorry.

Anyway, do you have reverse? Is what you are saying that no matter where you put the gear selector is that you only have first? I gather that it is an auto tranny?

If in fact you don't have reverse or other gears, stop driving it, either pull the tranny or flat bed it to a shop. You busted the sunshell or sprag

 

Dead Transmission.

 

Is this a 700r4 Tranny? Make sure the shifter cable is hooked up and not too loose. When I dropped a new engine in my camaro I left the shifter cable off and it would do the same thing. We had to hook it back up and give it just the right amount of slack for it to shift when its supposed to

 

mine wouldn't shift out of first in any forward gear, yurned out there were a few dents in the governor cover, just enough to keep it from spinning. do a search on "won't shift out of first". there are several possible causes.

I all this time, I can't locate a governor valve, and shifter cable looks "ok".

Now I see into eBay a governor valve for 700R4 GM (its valid for my Trans Am?. Into item specify the item its valid for all GM 700R4 except Corvette and Z28). I really don't know if I have got 700R4 (my car its a V8 from 1985). My transmission have overdrive.

Hi again,

I put a new governor, but dont solved the problem.

I get an eBay used valve body, and replace it, but dont resolve the problem.

I look for the TV cable, it works good, I test to see how it work while the pan was out of transmission.

This problem start when changed transmision fluid and filter on the garage.

I have read into this forum this is very bad for the car.

I have a Firebird from 1989 with V6 engine, work this gearbox into the V8? This firebird have overdrive, must be a 700R4 too?
