Which speed sensor for '92 WC T-5?? - PLEASE HELP

URGENT!

I need to buy a speed sensor for the WC T-5 I'm dropping into my '91 Z28. The WC T-5 came out of a '92 RS.
The dealer offers two sensors for my '91 Z28 and four sensors for the '92 RS. What's the difference?
The 4 sensors for the '92 are for the following RPO codes:
- D81/D8N
- D8A
- D8B
- D8M
The 2 sensors for my '91 are for these RPO codes:
- D81/D8N
- D8M/D8G

Are these sensors anyhow different? The dealer said that they do not come with the gear. Why so many sensors then? My understanding was that there is only one sensor but several gears (I already know which one I need).

So the biggest question is: which sensor (for which RPO) do I need? I have 2.73 gears, which matters a lot.

Thanks
Lou

Read that thread. My last post included.

Make your dealer tell you WTF each RPO is for. When you figure out that one is related to an automatic, you rule that VSS out.

If you search on this board, D81 won't help much; seems to be a spoiler RPO

I did a search for: D8N OR D8A OR D8B OR D8M and found a verification of 1992 five-speed usage really quick-like. Try it.

Knowing how to acquire the info is more important than remembering it.

Matthew, thanks for the info.
I did more research on the sensors and narrowed down the search from 6 to just 1. Hopefully OEM 10456087 (GP Sorensen equivalent 7799538) will be the right one. And a 19-tooth gear (supposedly pink but GM dealer lists it as white ).
You are right, the problem is in the GM people, they don't know what they're talking about. Without a VIN, they are lost. They asked me about the RPO's so I gave them some but they had no idea what each RPO meant. I knew more than them. You're right, the D81 comes up as a rear wing. Strange. The rest of the RPO's just show "SENSOR, VEH SPD". Similar with what their database is showing for each sensor part: "SPEED SENSOR".
But it appears that the 5-sp option codes are D8M and D8G. Most likely for 3.08 and 3.42 gears.
The last problem I am facing is the tooth count on the drive gear. Is it red or purple? (9 or 7 teeth) I'll find out soon, hopefully not the hard way.

Thanks for all the input.

Do a search for The Tricksters posts. He posted pics of several speedo gear charts. There are 4 images in all that he posted. I think I did the math last night and a 9/19 combo would be close for you, but if you're going to swap to 3.42 (or any combo that requires the 7 tooth) later on, I might do the tooth for now (& live with an "off" speedo) to save the effort later, but pulling a T5 isn't tough either.

Never go by gear colour. It varies from GM to aftermarket, from olde to new, etc.
