Okay so I have been planning to throw a 350 into my car for a while now, and I found an engine and transmission for $500, however the downside is that my car is a 5-speed and the transmission is an auto. What do i have to do to the auto transmission to make it into a manual?

 

Ok.... so just use the engine and sell the trans.... Or don't buy the trans at all. You can't "make" an auto trans a manual - you can swap them, but all of that is irrelevant if you want to keep your manual trans.

 

Okay thanks, wasn't sure if it was possible or not, guess its off to the junkyard i go (sigh)

 

the most you can do is put a manuel valve body in it so you have to shift it

 

I guess I'm not understanding... ....why don't you just take the automatic that you get with the 350, and put it up on craigslist? ....why can't you just use your existing 5 speed with the new 350?

 

Well I am planning on doing a few mods to the 350 to give it about 380 horse and 415 torque, and I have been told that even though the 350 will bolt up to my transmission it wont be able to handle that output.
