rear end swaps, what is the easiest to swap?
rear end swaps, what is the easiest to swap?
Assuming I could fabricate all the brackets and mounting for a torque arm, what would be the easiest fit for a third gen? Are the second gen 8.5s at all close to the same width to the third gen or would a mustang 8.8 be closer the the width neede for a third gen. Some detailed information is what I need.

The easiest would be a 9 inch Ford or 8 3/4 Chrysler because they have a steel housing that you can weld to. Any housing with a cast iron center is going to be harder because you can't easily weld to the cast iron. The 8.8 or 8.5 would require brackets coming off of the axle tubes or some kind of machined bracket that bolts to the back of the housing where the cover bolts on.

4th gen swap easiest - no fabricating - but it's still a 10 bolt, not any stronger than a 3rd gen rear. But as with a 3rd gen rear, can be beefed up to handle alot, just not no 600hp drag strip monster.
What's the goal? To handle what?
