rear end issue need suggestions

I should have some money coming in a month. So I am going to start looking into fixing my rear end.

this is what im thinking of. Powertrax 1930-LR

any opinions on this.
Quote:
The Powertrax Lock-Right and Performance Lockers' straight-line performance is equal to a solid spool axle, yet automatically unlocks to allow full differentiation in turns. The lockers also reduce the excessive noise, tire wear, and drivetrain damage associated with other lockers. Made in the U.S.A., Powertrax lockers replace the spider gears in your differential carrier without affecting your ring and pinion settings. The whole job can be done in your driveway with common hand tools in a couple of hours. A carrier is not included.
i will also change bearings and seals.

what do you guys think?

not the best thing going. I had one, it was a bit noisy, and ultimately i took it back out. For the money i would pickup a real posi, or a different already built rear and swap everything

Get the Power Trax No Slip. I run one, havent had any problems yet. If you have the stock rear then you will have 26 spline axles so you would need this one.

I've had a Lock Right in my truck for 14 yars and I've put over 140,000 miles on it with no problems. It's easy to install, but it does pop and jerk sometimes. A Eaton Posi or Duragrip would be smoother, and they aren't too hard to install. These will work if you have 3.23 to 4.10 gears.

A occasional pop and jerk will not bother me. it is more then occasional right now.

My uncle and his friend will help me get it installed as they have already installed one.

i do have 3.73 gears that i am sure of.

looks like i have some options to think about.

The Lock Right is $375 and a Duragrip is $360. The Duragrip will require new bearings and shims to install it, whcih will come to about $50. You will need a dial indicator with a magnetic base to install the Duragrip. Just depends on what you want and how much work you are willing to put into it.

Im just a little paranoid about screwing something up with installing the duragrip. i will have to ask my uncle if they have done a replacement like that.

thanks for the info.

Re: rear end issue need suggestions

ok guys i picked up a rearend. from a 86 camaro. it has 3.23 gears with a open diff. but new bearings and seals. it was sand blasted and painted.

so my question is what would you guys recommend that i do?

i can get 3.73 gears and do that swap.

or i can do the above or something similar and make it a posi with the 3.23 gears.

or i can attempt to get money for a installation kit to swap my current 3.73 gears into my new rear end if they will fit. and then possibly do the posi swap as well. but that then defeats the purpose of having a separate rearend. i might as well have rebuilt my current rear end.
