Differential swap, brake questions
Differential swap, brake questions
Ok, So I am looking to swap out my rear end for something bolt in. Either strange, moser, or currie. I am looking to put about 600hp through it (no slicks though). I have been searching the different companies websites and they all say that I cant use my stock brakes. But they dont really say what I am supposed to do. It seems everything else is bolt in no problem, just the brakes issue. Anyone have any experience with this swap? I searched for a DIY but didnt come up with anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Differential swap, brake questions
Do you have the disc brakes? If you have drum brakes then you will need to swap them for later S10 drum brakes. If you have disc brakes then you must order the rear end with the correct housing ends or you will have to modify the caliper brackets. What axle bearings are you going to use?
Re: Differential swap, brake questions
I do have disc brakes. So I suppose any of the three companies have that as an option? I dont know what bearings I would use. I suppose whatever they recommend when ordering. I would assume that the axle bearings are not something that I would have the option to change. Its not like a truck axle so gvwr doesnt really apply I would guess. What do you recommend?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Re: Differential swap, brake questions
You can get the 12 bolt with standard bearings and c clip axles or you can get it with press on 9 inch Ford axle bearings and eliminate the c clips. I can't speak for Strange or the other companies, but Moser offers several housing end choices, so you must know what you are ordering to get everything right. Some housing ends will require modifications to the caliper brackets and some won't.
Re: Differential swap, brake questions
Since you are a Moser dealer, maybe you could help me get the correct setup to meet my needs. If you are willing, I can tell you what is in the car and you can help me decide what is best?
