9 bolts came in the later iroc and GTA's, the dana44 was onyl available in the firehawks, and over the counter at GM. Good luck finding one for sale, and when you do, they are very expensive.

Re: Dana 44 or 9 bolt????
If you had access to either, go with the Dana 44. Chances are if you do find a bolt in Dana 44, it will be worn out, damaged, incomplete or so expensive that buying a better aftermarket bolt in diff would be a better option for a little more money.
As mentioned above, no third gens came from the factory with the Dana 44. The SLP Firehawk had them and they were available over the counter from GM. GM stopped selling them at least 10 years ago so the only source is to find a third gen that had one installed which is very difficult.

I have one in a 91 Z that I recently purchased from the salvage yard. It has pbr calipers with baer rotors. I bought the car mainly to get a roller going. Not sure if i want to sell the rear yet or not. I am positive that it is a dana 44.
