Brand new 1500 won't really cut it, at least for a 12 bolt. but you can find a used one and still have left over. What kind of power are you trying to handle here?

Re: Anyone know of a good place to buy a rear

From what I've seen for a new strong rear end the least cost option is the Ford 9" style unit ($2000 from a local shop called Quick Performance in Ames, IA). My investigation of 12 bolts indicates they are in the $2,300-2,500 range at a minimum. Add $300 for shipping. My understanding is that an upgraded 7.5" 10 bolt can handle a fair amount of power behind an automatic (350 rwhp?) from what I've read in various publications and on this web site over the years. The LS powered 4th Gen's have run with these rear ends with substantial more power than the L98's ever had. I would consider rebuilding your stock 10 bolt for $1,000.00 or so.

I'm sticking with my factory 7.75" BW 9 bolt but it is kinda expensive to rebuild and the ring and pinion options (new) are limited to one ratio.

Good Luck.

Re: Anyone know of a good place to buy a rear

Swapping in a 4th gen rear end will be a direct bolt in with some brake line modifications. However, it wont be any stronger than a 9 Bolt.
This is taken from the FAQ about rearends.

"What 10-Bolt Will Swap into My Car?
Any third- or fourthgen. While a fourthgen rear is a direct bolt-in, it'll be 2" wider or a bit less per side (note the link below for more info about width). Also, take note that if the gear ratio is changed in a swap, for example 3.08's to 3.42's, the speedo won't read correctly unless the transmission's drive and/or driven gears are changed. If you have a T-5, note the following link for gears and a how-to: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tr...ve-driven.html (T-5 Drive/Driven Gear Info--Please Contribute)
The following link provides more info about the fourthgen rear/swap: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fa...-gen-rear.html (Thinking 4th gen rear? Swap info inside)

Is a Fourthgen Rear End Stronger?
No stronger than a thirdgen rear with 28-spline axles."

If you are looking for bolt in and also strength upgrades, your going to be spending money. If you are looking to custom fab, the sky is the limit on rear ends.

My suggestion: Call as many junk yards (i like to call them RIP yards) as you can and find out who has 3rd and 4th gen camaros / firebirds / TA's and find yourself a read end. Dont just grab the first one you come across, take the cover off and find out first what it is and second if its worth buying (IE if the cones are shot, if there is actual gear damage, ect...) It will be your cheapest option. For strength upgrades, your going to have to spend more money, end of story.
Hope this helps.
