Rear End Swap

I've been looking into purchasing another rear end for my 86 firebird, now i can go back with stock.....but would rather upgrade to a newer model such as a 99 because of disc brakes. I already have the rims from a 99 on there with wheel spacers, but was wondering if the rear end from a 99 would work width wise. if anyone has done something like this, some insite would be helpful......old rear end got loose on an ice turn and bent the axle upon curb impact...
or any suggestions???

Welcome to TGO, FreeBird,

As you can imagine there's not much on site that hasn't been asked and answered many times, so a search is generally a good idea. Check the following link for the info you require:

Re: Rear End Swap

I just did this swap, and trust me, i'm a novice. There were a FEW minor snags, but it was pretty much a direct fit. Your biggest issue will be Ebrake cables. I also had an issue with the center hose, but on your 1986 Firebird, you will probably be alright on that.
