i just bought a built 700r4 trans from a friend. he said all i had to do was hook up a 12v power lead to the furthest back right side of the plug and that was it. i know i'm being vague but i dont understand this stuff that well so please forgive me. i have a carburated motor(with out nos i'm about 460hp and 100hp shot of nos) so no computer which is what he said he had the trans built for. my question is what do i do about a torque converter. my cam calls for a 2200-2400 stall which i understand but what about lock up. do i want a lock up converter or no. i want to be able to do high way driving so i would think yes but is there any electronics i need to hook up for this or just buy a tc with lock up and it will know what to do on its own. i can take pics if needed.

Read the TCC control sticky in the carb forum, it will answer some of your questions about how the lockup functions and has some wiring diags. Personally I'd use a lockup converter and make it work, but some others don't. Many places (TCI, etc.) sell kits to install for lockup function - but you may be able to rig your own.

 

so there is something that would have to be done to accommodate for lock up. i will read that sticky in carb section. thank you.
