Ok, I will try to give as much up front info as possible.

Son has a 1991 firebird with the 305 and a w/c T-5. Tranny started making a noise like a bad pulley bearing does. So after some research decided it was the pilot bushing, pulled tranny replaced pilot bushing reinstalled tranny. He drove the car about 2 days and the slave cylinder went out. Replaced slave cylinder and clutch wouldn't go all the way to the floor. So, I called parts store asked them if there were different slave cylinders depending on engine size and was told all engine sizes cross reference back to the part I got. Found the pivot ball adjustment screw for clutch fork. Turned it in while son worked clutch at each 1/4 turn till clutch would go all the way to the floor. He drove the car less than a day, clutch fork pivot stud had backed out causing clutch to not go to the floor and bent shaft for clutch master cylinder. The question I have is, is there a locking nut on that pivot stud? Is there anyway at all to lock it in place? I have never ran into this type of problem with any manual tranny before so I am kinda at a loss right now as far as what to do with it. Would be very thankful for any help you guys could give me with this.

Thanks

I will try that. But, is there something that is supposed to hold it in place? I don't really see a locking nut. Is the little clip looking thing behind the pivot ball supposed to hold enough pressure on it to keep it from spinning out?

i had a similar problem a couple of years ago . clean thread area , (i used brake clean) i let dry & used hi-sprength loc-tite (that was the first one in my drawer) . anyway it is not an uncommon problem . the little clip on the arm just holds the arm in place on the pivot stud ball . good luck .

The stock pivot ball is not intended to be adjusted. Unless the car has an adjustable one added, you just thread it in and done. I'd use loctite red.

If you end up replacing the throwout bearing, make sure it is the same height (bearing face to fork groove) as before

make sure the fork and clip are *both* inside the *same* groove in the throwout bearing.

And that the clip has not come off the pivot ballstud.

Buy new hydraulics for an LT1 T56 fourth gen to replace the master cylinder and get a braided stainless line in the deal.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. Also, thank you for the tip on the T56 setup with stainless braided line. This is going to save me alot of headache being that my son has been driving me nuts wanting to take my jeep every day. Again, thanks for the help and info.
