What rear end is this?
Im trying to figure out what gears are in this rear end. I don't know what it originally came off of. The only numbers I could find are 0578 026901 F and it has disk brakes if that helps. Thanks!

it doesnt. pop the cover off and count teeth.
or turn the axles and count the pinion rotations and figure it that way

I was hoping to avoid that. I googled those numbers and came up with either 2.77 or 3.27. I don't think its going to be worth swapping into my 88 even with the disk breaks. I just changed my rear brakes any way.

I'm always amazed at people who say this. I simply don't understand it. (mostly, I'm sure, because I'm an idiot) It totally dumbfounds me. Please explain it to me, because I completely fail to see any possible reason why doing this would ever bother anybody. Besides being THE ONLY accurate way to find out what gears are in the rear (but maybe that's because I'm so dumb, I have trouble imagining how any method of finding out what something is, could be even nearly as, let alone any more, definitive than just LOOKING AT IT, anyway), it only take like 5 minutes with hand tools, and about 15 seconds with air; and if you're going to use it, you gotta do that to change the fluid ANYWAY. You ALREADY KNOW you're going to be in there sooner or later. Seems like it's just not a big deal. But just the same, I'd like to hear why you don't want to do it, just so I'll know why a smart person thinks that way about it. But none of you smart people out there has ever told me in terms simple enough that a moron like me can "get" it, so I'm still in the dark I guess. I just bumble through life in the "hard way" (I guess it is? Iunno), and I always just LOOK AT THE GEARS. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Please enlighten me. I want to learn something today so I won't be so dumb the rest of my life.

Relax, I wasn't serious. I guess I should of worded that differently last night. I was on my to bed and was tired. Thats my excuse any way. I've had my car for 13 years and replaced nearly everything on it. I know I can handle pulling a cover of a rear end.
