what stall converter for my 700R4?
thinking about rebuilding my 700R4 transmission in my 92 TA. its not a race car i just drive it on the streets. going with a corvette servo and maybe a stage 1 shift kit. i would like to have alittle bigger converter then the stock 1650 stall. the engine is all stock with the stock cam. what is a good stall to run in my set up? thanks!

Re: what stall converter for my 700R4?
talked to a transmission shop today and they told me the most stall i can run with a stock cam is a 2000 stall in a 700r4. im just wondering how much better that will be over the stock 1650 stall?

1) your stock stall is closer to 1200, not 1650.
2) Not sure why you couldn't run up to a 2400 stall, but I'm no expert here either.
3) Look into a S-10 pickup stall converter. I have one behind my 350, been in there 4 years now with no issues at all, works great!
It's cheap (or was) - I got mine from GMPartsdirect.com for under $150 shipped!
Although it'sc a V6 truck the converter stalls at about 2200 behind my 350 (might stall a little lower behind a 305 which puts you right at the 2000).
It has lockup, so works fine.
Do a
here for "S-10 converter" or something to track down exactly what converter (part number) to look for, then check GMPartsdirect.com to see if they still carry and the cost. About 4 years ago everyone talked about doing this, and so I thought I'd try it. No one mentions anymore now, but it really is a great swap and much cheaper (or used to be anyway) than a B&M or other brand of "advertised" product.

i did the same thing you did last year...i bought a 2400 B&M holeshot covertor, corvette servo, transgo shift kit...however...it did this to a old unit...lets just say it didn't hold up...slipping. but the covertor was good
