T56 swap in progress
T56 swap into a 3rd gen, clutch options?
I'm in the middle of doing the T56 swap into my 3rd gen, trashed the race prepped 700r4, and after doing searches on all the different forums, 3 different clutches are mentioned with pro's and cons of each.. I cant afford the Mcleod street twin. $$$$
My motor is a pre '86 383 stroker putting out close to 500fwhp and 470fwtrq, I just scored a new centerforce conversion flywheel (700107) off ebay for $300, now I'm looking for a clutch kit, options are centerforce dual friction, Spec stage 3+, or a ram powergrip, what are your thoughts on these. The car is a weekend cruiser and bruiser, not a true DD, my wifes 94 v6 camaro is our DD.
The car/motor has pulled a 1.80 60ft on nitto DRs with a tight trq convrtr (2200stall) and ran a 8.20 in the 1/8th ((old 700r4 numbers- 350rwhp/370rwtrq))

Re: T56 swap in progress
I've been running Spec clutches with the same CF flywheel for years and have no complaints. I started out with a stage3 but found it to be more than I needed for the 350ish hp she was putting out at the time, and later swapped in a stage2 that I've been VERY happy with. With the hp/tq numbers you're throwing around the stage3 would probably be right up your alley.
I can't speak for the CF or Ram clutches from personal experience, but I have heard a few bad reviews of the CF dual-friction.
FWIW the T56 swap is a fantastic upgrade. It's my favorite of all the changes I've made to my IROC.
edit: You'll probably find that you need a gear change after the trans swap. 3.42 is really not deep enough to make good use of the 6-speed. I'd go to a 4.10 gearing in that car if I were you.

Re: T56 swap in progress
I'm running a kinda thrown together clutch setup on mine, but I am running a Spec stage 3+ disc on a stock replacement pressure plate and flywheel. I got the disc and PP for free, thats why I'm running it like that. I'm also using a Ram hydraulic throwout bearing instead of a slave and clutch fork. Not sure if maybe that effects how quick it engages or not. The clutch engages quick though. I dont mind it, but some may. Its a realy grippy clutch. I'm probably putting down a tad less power than you, but fairly close to it. But I get no chatter or anything out of it.

Re: T56 swap in progress
the gear swap will be next on the adgenda, not sure if I want 4.10s since I take it to the track occasionally, have seen too many 4.10 gears broken at the tracks, leaning towards 3.73s, my 10 bolt has been upgraded with the rear girdle cover, the axle tubes have been completely welded.
