Please help!! 1987 iroc-z tranny

Alright so just turned 16 and came across this little camaro. Need to figure out how hard it will be to weld the tranny to the frame.

You cannot weld the tranny to the frame! What is the issue exactly?

Re: Please help!! 1987 iroc-z tranny

Ad says "weld the transmission brace to the frame" which I'm guessing means they stripped out the boltholes for the transmission crossmember. If that's the case, then welding the crossmember in will mean having to cut the welds if you ever need to remove the trans for any reason. Probably not a good idea.

Try to find a good mechanic to go with you to look at the car and see exactly how bad the damage is, so that you can get a better idea what it'll cost to fix before you buy the car.

Re: Please help!! 1987 iroc-z tranny

i've seen some of the crossmembers rot right off the frame.

its probably 170k miles, not 70k.

the car has the potential of being a disaster, keep looking

Yeah - if you haven't bought it yet, keep walking. It's too much work and not a good enough deal. I buy running 3rd gens all the time for under 1000 that have no problems.
