Pickup another 700r4 or go 4l60e?

Well last Sunday I yanked my LT1 out of my 92 Camaro to put into the 86 bird. In the process I left the talk end of the trans on the ground and had the front up about half an inch to disconnect it from the LT1. Bad idea a chunk came off the 700r4 and now I am stuck deciding on what direction to go next. Here is a pic of the damage:

I'm sure having the peice welded on will run $50-$125. Besides I have no clue if the trans is as old as the 92 was (154k) the trans fluid was no where close to prove that wrong.

So I decided to just put it to the side. Now I would love to go 4l60e just to ditch the tv cable and the ability to adjust shift points but finding one for the past month seemed to bring up nothing in my area. Buying one online will run about $750-$800. One place I looked at was Hawks which sells em for $500 plus shipping which I'm sure runs $150 to as high as $300. While finding another low mile 700r4 is easy. Most locally run $150-$300 for a under 100k 700r4.

So what would be the smart thing to do? Is waiting for a 4l60e worth it or just go for another 700r4?

you will also have to run some kind of computer for the 4l60e.

Personally I would just have the bellhousing welded. Run it until it wears out, then have it rebuilt.

Or, try to find a cheap replacement 700r4.

You still have all the bolt holes in tact - I'd use THAT 700R4 - nothing wrong with it! Lets face it - that's not a sealed area, or else we'd have something better than a plastic dust shield to cover the front. USE THAT TRANNY!

The chunk does have a bolt hole. Look at the pic closly its missing the top bolt hole after the pin.

As far as the first reply, I'm doing an lt1 swap so its already taken care of to take control of the trans.
